Noratus

Noratus village is located in Gegharkunik province. It is one of the oldest settlements of Gegharkunik province, where many monuments are preserved. Noratus is famous for its outdoor museum of khachkars (stone crosses).

       

The cemetery has the largest cluster of khachkars in the Republic of Armenia. The St. Astvatsatsin church is located in the center of the village. The St. Gregory church and a big cemetery are located in the south-east of the village.

 

       

The cemetery of Noratus is divided into the new and the old one, where are 728 khachkars, dating back to IX-XVII- centuries. This is the largest complex in Armenia. The oldest khachqar dates back to 996.

In the tombs of Noratus were found bronze belts, bracelets, arrowheads, beads, etc.
