The Pagan temple of Garni is unique and the only remaining pagan temple in Armenia. It was built in the 1st century BC. With its general structure the construction is peripteral. Nearby is the Garni Gorge with well preserved basalt columns. This portion of the gorge is typically referred to as the "Symphony of the Stones". Its walls are formed by basalt hexagons which resemble organ pipes. Geghard is a medieval monastery which was built in the 4th century. It is partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. It is listed in UNESCO World Heritage Site. Gegхard is also known for the relics. The most important of them is the lance with which centurion Longinus impaled the body of Jesus Christ.
