Khor Virap Monastery is situated on a small hill in village Pokr Vedi. From here you can admire the best view of the biblical Ararat. Here stopped Noah’s Arch after the great flood. Monastery is sitated in a place of a royal prison where our king Trdat the 3th prisoned our first catolicos Grigory the Illuminator, according to who we adopted Christianity in 301. Still tourists can see and get into the dip pit where Grigory the Illuminator lived 13 years. The depth of the pit is 6 metres.  On the territory of the monastery there is also monastery Astvatsatsin (Godmother).
